At 9 years old, lying in my bed with a notebook full of sketches and a head full of possibilities, I was certain: I was going to be a high-end fashion designer. I’d sit for hours, designing gowns fit for red carpets, picturing the fabric, the flow, the spotlight. In my mind, I was already in Paris, running my empire. Those dreams were as bright as the glow-in-the-dark stars on my ceiling.
Now, at 39, my runway looks a little different. Instead of fabric and thread, I work with petals and stems. I’m a floral designer—a creator of beauty and stories through nature. It’s not the exact vision I had as a child, but it’s still my dream. It’s a dream that has evolved, grown, and blossomed, much like the flowers I work with every day.
Dreams Are Meant to Grow
Life has a way of throwing in twists and turns. At first, I thought I had abandoned my childhood dream. But this year taught me that my dream didn’t vanish—it just changed shape. The essence of it stayed the same: creating beauty, telling stories, and inspiring joy.
Reconnecting with that fearless little girl inside me has been a gift. I’ve started to see my work not as a departure from my original dream, but as an extension of it—a remix. And let’s be honest, some of the best songs are remixes, right?
Lessons from My Remix
Here’s what I’ve learned about dreaming big, even when the dream changes:
1. Dreams Don’t Expire
Just because a dream looks different doesn’t mean it’s over. Sometimes, we’re simply meant to pursue them from a new angle. At 9, I dreamed of creating beauty. At 39, I’m still doing exactly that.
2. Stay True to the Core
The heart of your dream is what matters. For me, it was always about artistry and connection. Whether it’s a dress or a bouquet, that’s the part that’s stayed consistent.
3. Be Open to the Remix
Life might not give you the original track you envisioned, but it’ll add its own beats and layers. Let it. Sometimes, the remix is even better than the original.
Keep the Dream Alive
Looking back, I realize that my 9-year-old self would be proud. I’m still dreaming, still creating, and still chasing beauty. The journey hasn’t been perfect, but it’s been mine—and that makes it worth it.
So here’s my message to you: don’t stop dreaming. Let your dreams evolve, grow, and surprise you. The path might look different, but that doesn’t mean you’ve lost your way. Trust the remix.
